Your opinion needed. To move the list from Yahoo or not?

Mike, Whatever you decide is fine but I have no problem with Yahoo. Now I
do hate junk email but ads on the bottom of msg's don't offend me at all.
I've never had a problem with them and they don't seem to actually get in
anyones way. After awhile you don't even notice them..

I also like being able to access the site from anywhere on the web. Thanks
for offering this.
Mike

PS: Thanks for the Blockbuster card. You certainly didn't and shouldn't have
done this. I'm happy to lend tools anytime. They get used that way.

Hi All,

OK, here is the deal. We have the oportunity to move
the list to another list mailer. Mark Bradakis hosts
many of the largest automotive lists in cyberspace
such as british-cars, triumph, etc. Mark has kindly
offered to host the amphicar list on his team.net
servers. I see bothe pros and cons to this.

There has been some grumbling of late about the
Yahoogroups service to the list. While I think we
have dealt with the virus issue by disabling
attachments, the advertisements remain with no option
to eliminate them. On the other hand, Yahoo does
offer other services such as the shared files library
and web based viewing of messages, both of which get a
fair amount of use. It also provides an easy
mechanism for modifying your options once you have
established your Yahoogroups account. The majordomo
server which we would potentially move to is a
traditional listserver. It works very well but there
are fewer bells or whistles.

Anyway, do let me know what your thoughts are. I will
use the feedback from listmembers to determine if I
will move it or not. In either case a special thanks
goes to Susan Hensley for contacting Mark on my behalf
about hosting on his servers.

Best Regards,

My opinion is to keep this Amphicar list as is on
yahoo. I currently subscribe to the sunbeam alpine
list on team.net, and while I find it okay, I like
this list better due to the ability to post photos
easily, files, etc.

Why change a good thing? Keep it simple. Who cares
about the ads. Just ignore them.

That is my opinion.

I would stay with Yahoo, after a couple of week with the ads I don't
even notice them or even mind them........kind of like my boss. Ray

I'm fine with Yahoo.

If we do at some point NEED to change to a no frills major domo type mailer
that doesn't provide web viewing of messages, it doesn't really matter
because we HAVE web viewing of messages outside of Yahoo now at
www.escribe.com/automotive/amphicar/
If someone wants to avoid the ads, simply go to the escribe site and view
the messages.

The most important thing to me is to keep the escribe site going - wherever
the "group mailer" goes. It has all the postings from near the beginning,
before moving to Yahoo....messages back to 1998.
Where the group mailer resides isn't as important to me as the escribe
archives. If ever there comes a time when escribe wants to shut down or
start charging for their service, please let us know, because it is a
valuable resource.

Thanks Marc....I didn't know that escribe existed. I got my
trailer back from having the ramps modified so we'll be going to
Mt.Dora for sure now. Ray.

Hi Mike,

I vote to leave the list as is. I think web access and all the extra features
offered by Yahoo are a real benefit. To change
would be a lot of work on your part as well as one more thing for everyone else
to do in our busy lives.

Thanks very much for looking out for all of us.

[...snip!] Anyway, do let me know what your thoughts are. I will
use the feedback from listmembers to determine if I
will move it or not. In either case a special thanks
goes to Susan Hensley for contacting Mark on my behalf
about hosting on his servers.

My vote would be to thank Susan and Mark for their kind support, but as you
say the other web based "Yahoogroups!" features such as file sharing are
very popular AND useful, so I would stand pat. Frankly, I barely notice the
ads.

Make that one vote to stay put for now.
