Today was a great day in Chicago for Feb. Temps in the mid 50's so I
decided to do a bit of work in the garage. This is something I haven't
really done in about 8 months. I decided to finally start up an Amphicar
which had not run in about 36 years. Last year I changed the fuel and water
lines etc. and had a bit of marvel mystery oil in the cylinders so I was
pretty much ready. After checking things and hooking up the fuel line I
blew out the cylinders, sanded down the points and installed the plugs.
After a few turns I connected the coil and gave it a try. After a few
tries I found no fuel was getting to the carb so I changed the pump and off
she went. It smoked for more than a few minutes after it came to life and
burned off the marvel then settled in as new. These 1147's are not
powerful but sure seem to be pretty bullet proof.
As I let the engine run to full warm status I noticed antifreeze leaking
down the inside wheel hump on the passenger side. It was coming from the
heater opening where air blows underneath the passenger leg area. (heater
is on the side of tank). Since I can feel or see the hose connections to
the heater and they are dry I'm assuming it's the heater core. Does anyone
have any other suggestions.
Thanks
