Are there any other mid-winter convertible top installation pointers to insure an easy, good looking installation? (I realize I may be pushing it with the "easy" qualifier)

Larry,

The one thing I regret doing while installing my top was to put it on tight. I listened to someone who was helping me who thought it would look nice if it was tight as possible. This is a mistake. Put in on loosely because the material will shrink over time and with the weather. Put on too tight will make putting up and latching the top very difficult. Also, do not cut off all of the extra material at the front like I also did. Hope this helps, Mark (not an expert)

Thanks Mark. I put Amphi's top on in '94 and MetalBeasts' in 2001
(summertime for both). Haven't seen MetalBeast in years, but I know what
you mean. Even Amphi's (former) top seemed to get tighter in the last few
years, particularly when cold.

Putting the top on loosely and not trimming, especially those formost
and rearmost edges, is superb advice, as I can also confirm that the top
I put on in '95 really shrank in the last couple of years.

Conv. tops should be installed in a HOT area so heat up shop to 80 degrees, and keep a 500 watt light in the area as they give off heat too.
I have found a great way of installing the trim at rear side windows.
punch 3 holes in rubber , install on alu. trim then screw trim onto frame, ta da
make sure rear window is clear of first cross frame,

Install the top slightly loose and run a clothing steamer around the inside of the top. It will shrink right before your eyes to a slightly the correct tightness. I did my two cars 7 years ago and the tops haven't shrunk further.
