What Pertronix Fit My Amphicar

I found a local British car restorer who sells Pertronix. He thought it would be good in an amphicar, (no more point maintenance, buy a Pretronix coil also). His Pertronix rep said pertronix does not have one to fit my distributer 40743 A 461.
Some posts on this site say whole distributer. Is that what I need? If so what is the part# and approximate cost?

I've put Pertronix modules in 3 Amphicars that had the standard distributors on them and they worked fine. The one to get depends on if your car is positive or negative ground. The module for each polarity is different and cannot be changed. I'm not familiar with the number you mentioned. I'm sure Dave or Gord would have numbers that would work for you. I have 3 or 4 used distributors sitting around that I haven't bothered to put on line. Let me know if you find that you need one because somebody switched your distributor for something weird.

LU142AP12 is the pertronix part number i have tucked away for positive ground cars. i havent purchased this and used it, but it is the one im planning to get and drop into my existing distributor.

Here's the newest negative ground version. They make modest claim for improved high speed performance but I haven't checked into that yet. I have my old one, that works fine, that I'll sell for $50 delivered. It's negative ground too though.

P.S. You don't need their coil for the system to work. I ran with the Amphicar coil for years without problem.

I don't know why a pertronix rep would say there isn't one to fit my Triumph 1147. Between prior posts and this recent thread I believe "pertronix igniter's" have proven their value in Amphicars. I made the switch to neg ground and alternator with restoration 11-12 years ago. John I bought some parts from you several years ago and a $50 original igniter is good enough to me, I can look you up when home from work. If it doesn't work in my distributor you will have another sale.

The first generation pertronix igniter John sold me installed easy, just follow the well written instructions. Engine fired right up! Went to the local lake with a friend, the engine sounds great! All that is left is the test of time.

I've been running that Pertronix without issue since 1998 or so, Scott. First tbe + groind version then moving to - ground in 2009.

As there is no physical contact with a cam follower on mechanical points you'll see consistancy in tbese older engines as the magnetic pickup compensates for any possible distributor wobble, too. Enjoy!
