Re the "confirmed" then abandoned photo shoot of Amphi by Teen Vogue, I and
a number of Floridian Amphicar owners can easily empathize. In May 2005,
Teen Vogue spent thousands of dollars ( our guesses were at least $25K and
likely much more, ) for the 2 day shoot at Mount Dora which involved 5
Amphicars including ours, the Fredsalls, Rovettos, Millers and Dan Borgman
They put us up in Mount Dora's fancy Lakeside Inn for 2 nights and fed us
royally each night in local restaurants when the shooting ended as well as
ample food during the day. The magazine hired Select Services, a Production
Company from Miami, who had a crew of over 20 including the principal
Photographer who flew in from London, as well as teen age models, some of whom
actually were brought from Europe !
The film crew went to great lengths to build a pseudo outdoor movie theater
screen showing our five Amphis resting side by side in the water at a
supposed water borne "Drive In Theater." The featured film was "North by
Northwest" with Cary Grant ( who can clearly be seen on the screen as Cary runs
from the persuing airplane in some of the neat still pictures which those
of us who participated have.) They had me make at least 25 impressive
"Splash Ins" over and over which thrilled the teen aged models on board and which
all of the models and production crew got a big kick out of. However,
after all of that, the anticipated magazine article never came out. A couple of
our sharp eyed Amphi owners spotted the vent window and part of the face of
the driver of one of our 5 cars in an unrelated picture 3 or 4 months
later in an issue of Teen Vogue. Otherwise, that was the total result of the
shoot. We with the 5 Amphicars who participated were paid and actually had
quite a good time. However, it was disappointing to have what should have
been a pretty neat article and would have provided considerable exposure of
our unique Amphibians never appear in the magazine. It certainly would have
appealed to a lot of the younger crowd who probably constitute the bulk of
their readership.

Amphi was all set for next weeks phot shoot for teen Vogue. Received the
confirmation two days ago that the shoot was on for 10-12 July.
A few minutes ago we received the news,
"Our creative director has decided to take the shoot in an entirely
different direction, so we unfortunately will not be needing your car."
Amphi will surely be distressed. Personally, it sounds like they need to
find a new creative director!!
