hey folks,

i'm looking to have a deep and full restoration done on my 66 amphicar by an outfit in austin, texas - but i'm located in utah.

the shop in austin wants to give a pretty detailed bid, and they really want to see an amphicar in-person in order to give a realistic bid for the work.

i'm wondering if anyone in the austin area would be willing to let these guys take a look at your car. (i'm happy to pay you $1k for you trouble.)

any takers? reply or email prefetch@gmail.com

If they don't know what an Amphicar looks like or what a restoration entails...RUN!!! If you plan on shipping the car hundreds of miles for repair work anyway, pick someone with experience...someone who knows what a proper repair consists of.

that's not a bad idea. i don't know why i didn't think of that..

if i don't get anyone interested in the offer, i think that'll be a good option.

i appreciate the sentiment. i do all the repair work myself, but i'm not much of a "detail guy" so if post-restoration i have any problems i'm not too worried.

good to know.
but can he convert it to be electric? :). that's what the folks in texas specialize in.

that may be sacrilege, but i just want to do something a little different. i've got a high compression 1.3 motor in it already, and i just don't like how weak it is. i can't really take it to any lakes nearby because it'll only do about 60 on the freeway, getting passed by people doing 80 is nerve wracking.

Dave the wave just finished a conversion in FL.
He had some good posts on Facebook.
But like me, he is probably too busy right now to take on a big project,
I almost converted the Fiberglass car I made in 2013.
Family car is a Honda Clarity Plug in... LOVE IT!
Wife has not bought gas in it all winter.
