Affordable Amphi - new address

Leslie,

Have you looked in the amphicar.com site under "Classifieds"? You
could place a "Wanted" ad in there with your target price. You never
know what could happen!

Anyone who may have sent me anything to me via my minnow at Amphicar
dot net address or my eBay address (fishbone at uswestmail.net)
before yesterday (6/25) should resend as the email service I used for
6+ years has been shut down permanantly and I have no access to it. :(

PS - I will be doing the boat reg this week. I'll keep ya posted how
Colorado handles it. Then one more dip in the water (no comment!) to
be sure the one leak I had is no more.

Well, I know what will happen with an "Amphicar Wanted" ad: ...Nothing.
Fact is, we don't really encourage "Amphicar Wanted" ads on the Club
Classifieds...Of course, ads for PARTS wanted are quite another matter.

Why is this, you ask? Well, in all the years I have maintained the Club
site's Classifieds page and the Amphicar.net 'Amphi-Bazaar' classifieds page
before that, I can't recall even once where a wanted ad was effective in
getting a buyer and seller together where the Amphi wasn't already posted
there for sale anyhow. Pointless "Amphicar Wanted" ads will quickly clutter
up a nice classified ads page like kudzu if you let them.

I guess the bottom line is that tending to the Club's website pro bono in my
spare time, I just can't waste a lot of it catering to "dreamers" who'll
probably never close a real deal or to the legion of cashless time wasters
out there who think they might just be able to find an Amphi for a hundred
bucks if they post an "Amphicar Wanted" ad. Right now there are no less
than FIVE Amphis for sale in in all different conditions and prices ranges
right up there on the Classsifieds at www.amphicar.com/ads.htm . So, if you
really WANT an Amphi, BUY one.

Well Bill, that was quite a pleasant note and now I feel so welcome to your
little group. I have looked and have not found any for sale, perhaps I was
looking in the wrong place. I would have appreciated the lead instead of
your " no less than FIVE Amphis are for sale" comment.

Thanks for the information, it took reading through your Pro Bono email to
find it.

Hi Bilgey,
I am also fairly new to this list, and no, I do not own an Amphi. I must say
here that I for one was quite put off by your reply about putting a wanted
add in the classified section of the Amphicar.com site. While, as a dues
paying member of Amphicar.com, I would think that all members were allowed
to place adds, it seems that only certain adds by certain people are wanted.
While your explanation as to why "Amphi Wanted" adds aren't productive is a
well taken point, and illustrates why one probably shouldn't post one. 'Nuff
said. However, you didn't stop there. Your next paragraph seems to prejudge
the intentions, motivations, and financial situation of a lot of people
based solely on the suggestion of the placing of a wanted add. These people
are all intent on "wasting your time", since they are all "dreamers" or
"cashless time wasters". Sheesh, I am glad that I have had the opportunity
to talk with other members of this list who seemed quite interested in
furthering the Amphi cause, of being friendly, honest people. It would be
unfortunate if people only had you from which to form an opinion as to the
type of people who admire Amphicars.

Regards,

Dana

It is a little hard to tell, but if your reply was meant sincerely, than it
will be taken as such. No offense will be taken by me, and I should hope,
any others. We all have busy schedules and bad days. Life goes on.

I for one am limited in my means, but my love for Amphicars is quite
independant of my present means of affording one. I hope that this is not an
exclusive club, as the old saying goes, "where there is a will there is a
way." I will own one of these magnificent vehicles someday, but until then I
can still serve as an advocate and lover of all things Amphi. If nothing
else, I can appreciate and revere those who are in a position to own one.

I'm sure the Bilgemaster was sincere ... for those of us who've been
around a while he is a really nice guy.

Take it as such. Good luck in your search.

Depending on what you want in an Amphicar, many things are affordable with
the right skills and a labor of love. Dana and Leslie might be so new to
the list that they don't know all the fun Dave had with the infamous Brown
Wonder before moving up the line through more and more "nicer" Amphicars
and helping several owners with theirs. Check out the original
resurrection story of the Brown Wonder at:

In defense of Bilgy, There is at least one person who has been saying
they wanted an Amphi fr some time. I took the time to send him
pictures and a really nice detailed description. His only reply was 2
words. "Too much." I found that very disrespectful and childish. At
least they could have said "thanks for your time". That same person
will never buy anything from me, nor will I pass on any for sail
either because of that. Those are the type of people who Bilgmiester
was referring to.

If anyone wants the challenge of a Brown Wonder type project then one of my cars
is still for sale for $2200, only problem for most of you is it's in the UK - it
would cost about $1000 to ship to an East Coast USA port. Details and pictures
