Story behind the Disney Amphicars

I have been in Florida for just 3 months and have been out in my Amphicar many times and haven’t seen any Gators, keep looking for them, but none yet! I think the noise of the engine scares them away

Years ago I took my kids to Disney World and we watched the Amphicars going in and out of the water, the cost was 125.00 for a 20 minute trip.

I told my kids that over the years they must owe me $500,000.00 not to mention all the ice cream cones we have eaten along the way!

Also I have had people come up to me in the past telling me about how they wanted to go for a ride in DW but they could not afford it. When I tell them that not only can they ride in mine for free, it usually includes a beer for the parents and ice cream for the kids!

Right now my lake is partially frozen over so only 175 sleeps!

Great update Doug!

Those rubber duck amphis like in the windshield of the green car in the picture are for sale on the Boathouse website for $17.99.
Looks like they have red, ivory & green.

My daughter brought me a red one from one of her recent trips to Disney. She also brought me one of the little Amphicar food trays that they provide the kids meals in and a couple of plastic Amphicar cups that I guess the kids drinks come in, all nice things to have in your Amphicar shrine.

Some of you may remember Kari from my first trip to Celina in 2000. She was a young girl of about 16 then and we rode in Mike Clark's car in the rain for the parade. It took me all the way until 2020 to get a car of my own.

My mom wanted an Amphicar at the NY World's Fair, 1964. She bought one new from Bristol Myers' Bazaar in "Look" Magazine, July, 1967. She bought another, used one in 1975. Altogether I inherited 3 Amphicars. I was chief mechanic while they rusted. Slipping clutch and universal joint failures.
