Rusty Tunnel Ends

My "driver" Amphi still is not driveable. While in the process of
changing the rear axles and bearings, I pulled the boots off the
tunnels to change the double lip seals and found that the inner ends
of the tunnels were rusted away at the bottoms. Bummer! Getting this
"driver" car to go is looking more like a house remodel all the time.
I need advise about fixing these things. Are the tunnel ends
available separately from Gordon's? Are they welded to the tapered
parts of the tunnels or merely soldered? Here's the big one: Is there
any conceivable way of repairing these things without pulling the
engine and transmission?
Any suggesttions would be helpful.
