Re Thread 20322:

This year at least, WE will go to the Tavares Location on Lake Dora where we
were last year and swallow the $40 Registration, whether it is fair or not.
To change our plans at this time would confuse a lot of people, especially
those from out of state. Furthermore, as I have stated, we have no control
over the Registration and don't know at this point how many people have already
registered with the Sunnyland ACBS club for the Lake Dora show. On the plus
side, the location they gave us right by the brand new and excellent wide
ramp could not be better, so it is not all "gloom," just what is reasonable or
fair. For me personally, I can manage the $ 40, but it is as stated what is
fair and what do we get for it because after all we Exhibitors are "The
Show," though Sunnyland is charging the public admission. However, as I previously
said, the rising Registration fees are just another indication of the
problems potential newcomers to the old car hobby face. Some of them , though they
may have the advantage of youth and more years ahead than us oldsters, for
many of them, finances are often a struggle because they can only "spend it one
way." Their options often become whether to pay it or just not go.

Dave, you mention having a party at the Lake Harris Lodge. Again, I do not
know if you are referring to Friday night instead of going to the Captain's
Party which is included in the Registration or if you are meaning instead of
our gala Saturday night party in the Banquet Room at the Golden Corral. I
think we should not make ANYsuch changes without the chance to talk as a group
which will be possible at the Tavares Lake Dora show Friday afternoon and all
day Saturday and also at our Banquet on Saturday night. I do not think
many, if any one, disagrees that the Golden Corral Banquet site was a great find.
We reserve it every year as we have been doing now since 2003. Not only are
they good to us, the meal is excellent and the cost is very reasonable. If
you wish confirmation of this fact, look at the Sunnyland Registration form
and note that their Saturday night banquet is $ 40 per person ! I know the
Golden Corral has had inquiries from others about reserving that night for
their party in the Banquet Room, so I don't think we want to give up a good thing
and regret it. The Banquet Room is a perfect size for our group and we have
privacy as well as Electrical outlets for our use if we wish. So unless you
were meaning Friday night, I would definitely say we want to stay with the
Golden Corral for our Gala Party Saturday night. Regardless of whether we
gathered at the old Mount Dora location or at Tavares, the Golden Corral is very
convenient to the whole area. First I, and then Carol and I scoured the whole
area for a suitable site for our Amphicar Saturday night party back in 2002
and we literally found NOTHING suitable, let alone that compared with our
finding the Golden Corral site.

As far as the Mount Dora area and the ramp at Gilbert Park, I think
possibility is an excellent idea which I have personally suggested and they would
probably be delighted to have us. I also don't believe there is any cost
involved to our parking there because there are not that many vehicles involved. It
is a public ramp as far as I know and it is only 6 miles by land or water
from the Tavares location. However, for this year at least we are now
registered with the Boat show and will stay at the Lake Harris Resort RV Park which
is 3 miles west of the Boat show. While we are at the show this year, we can
all discuss it and explore the Gilbert Park area and ramp feasibility at Mount
Dora where we were for the first 10 years of our participation. If we
decided to make Gilbert Park in Mount Dora our site, there is nothing at all, as
you or someone pointed out, to prevent us from going over and parking at the
Tavares location and paying the admission to go in and see the show or to
cruise over by water and see what sort of reception we might receive, BUT NOT THIS
YEAR. For the present, plans are too far along and too many people are
already committed to various degrees in addition to us.

Vic, most that are staying at Lodge will not have a car and thus will not be registered, so Friday Night Captains party-we will not be invited to. I would never mess with the Saturday night gala dinner at The Golden Corral. Later Dave the Wave

Dave - I got the message. Where is this Harris Lodge ? I gather it is not
related to or near the Lake Harris Resort RV Park ( also called "Fisherman's
Cove RV Park" where we and probably other RVers are staying. The $ 35 a night
is hard to beat for a full hookup and all the conveniences of home with a
hot and cold running blonde ! Vic
