Founded in 1953 by Peter Volid, King Korn Stamps was established by fifteen Iowa supermarket chains. King Korn trading stamp company was positioned to primarily compete with S&H Green Stamps. The company grew significantly under Volid's leadership and was well known for its Chicago area redemption centers where customers could exchange stamps for various premiums and goods.

You could get an Amphicar for 1084 books of stamps. Each book had 12 full pages, each holding 30 stamps, plus an additional 10 stamps on the 13th page, for a total of 370 stamps. Stamps were worth 10¢ each, so you had to spend $40,108.00 to get enough for the car. At an average spend of $25.00 per week for groceries in 1967, it would take more than 30 years to have enough stamps for the car.
