My name is Paul, I live in Bradenton Florida and have decided to take an
already nice Amphicar I have owned for 8 years and restore it. A bit
more rust than I can tolerate is starting and I want to get this before
it is major. The first step for me is to strip the car, sad in that is
is still running, and swimming without leaks. I know I will have to do
for the most part a complete brake system replacement for anything
ouside the body!

Well right now, step one is to find the best way to get a service
manual, and any after market books that will be of value. Could anyone
direct me to a simple shop manual that I know will be grease stained,
not an original, nor in plastic sleeves, a copy if legal is fine! If
anyone has a good idea please let me know. I am new to this system so I
do not really know how it works yet, first email out.

I am very fortunate, my father in law who ran much of VW and Porche's
mechanical area through the 60's, then had his own shop has decided he
wants us to do this, he loves seeing all the European parts on this car
he had never heard of. Well thank you in advance for any suggestions.

It sounds like your first stops should be at "The Cap'n's" (i.e. John
Bevins) various web wonders. These include online Spare Parts and Service
manuals. The Cap'n can also fix you up with hardcopies or CDs of these and
even a big color-coded electrical diagram.

Links to all these and other repair and restoration info, services, etc. can
be found at:

Best of luck!

I would highly recommend "Cap'n" John Bevins material. He has put much
work into manuals both on-line and hard copy and CD reference...

Depending on the browser you are using, some of the links from the
www.amphicar.net top page are not visible, so sometimes the direct link is
helpful.

THANKS FOR THE GOOD WORDS Al and Tommy! It is not reflected in the
classifieds section, but I have dropped my prices ($75 will get you a
manual and a CD or $25 CD only & as always, no shipping cost to
members). I will only have a few at this price then no more hard
copies will be done. I will continue to sell the CDs until ...

Only weeks after I sold many of the CDs (some on eBay) that there
were 2 people selling the repopped manuals on eBay. I am not accusing
anyone of anything, just pointing out that tidbit. I was 3/4 through
making the parts manual searchable and linked to the maint. manual, I
also had re-taken many of the pictures in full color for more
clarity. That is not going to happen either because of this. I am
truely sorry as all I wanted was to contribute to the well being of
the Amphicar folks. Oh well, at least I know there are no 1958
Amphicars! ;) ;)
