Regarding your use of a tow dolly. Speaking from personal experience, I
can only caution you to be very careful when towing in that fashion. I,
too, attempted that very same thing and also thought I tied the steering
securely. Going on the local streets was fine, but once I got on the
highway...well, horrifying doesn't seem adequate. As I approached
highway speed, the car started making wild gyrations, swinging across all
the lanes. The other cars fortunately saw this happening and slowed down
to give us room. Even though I tried to slow down, the action was too
much and spun us 180 degrees. Pretty darn frightening.

Hi all, does anyone know if a 8 port head from the 1300 or 1500
engine will fit on the block of the 1150 engine? I still want to get
the heat away from the exhaust manifold,{already did the heat shield}
plus get a better carb and some extra horsepower.

Hello,

Forget trying to rework the 1147 with an 8 port head and switch to a
1296 engine instead. It will give you more power than the 1147 and
you will still have a reasonably stock set up. Stock, that is, for a
Triumph Spitfire from about 1967 to 1971. If you get one from about
67 to 69, the fan belt will be the same too. You should get an
aftermarket intake manifold and Weber carb set up (manual choke
version)that was made as a replacement for Spitfires. Pierce, in
Gilroy, CA makes one that I like. Use the exhaust manifold from
about a 67 Spitfire too. You will need a custom made J pipe but
that's pretty easy to have done. There are other, minor tricks too
but I've figured them out for my two Amphicars. Email me if you want
more info. I'll try to post a photo of my lastest installation.

Hey!: I was in NOLA (New Orleans LA) last weekend. Missed the boat show near
there though. I did see the picture of you and your car in the Monday
newspaper. Congrats!

Don't use rubber bungees for this! That is extremely dangerous. Only
use either a stout leather strap or a good rope that doesn't
stretch. If the car gets even a little squirrily and starts dancing,
the rubber bungee will stretch and not keep the wheels steady when
you need it the most. Trust me on this!

Hmmm--Seems I did everything wrong and it worked great, maybe my luck is
changing.
The tow dolly is almost brand new, no play in the table pin and the
rubber bungees are heavy duty commercial grade, plus I secured them diagonally
where there is a steady centering pressure but also a pull from either side. I
had it up to 75 but decided to play it safe and stayed at 65 for three hours
each way, this rig pulls better that either of the two trailers I used
before--go figure.
Now back to the original question---does anyone know if a 8 port head
will fit on a 1150 block???

NO - the stud spacing is different.

That is SO dangerous, surprised it's not illegal over there, the steering castor
angles are reversed so it will keep trying to go to full lock. For the sake of
the Amphi don't do it.
