Cluster Dash Gauge...

I'm in need of a new Cluster Dash Gauge. Mine works but has cracks in
the gray mat back ground and the colored taps for the lighted indicators
have come loose. Can these be serviced? I know the fuel gauge comes out
but can you take the chrome rim off, for refinishing and touch up of the
face. If its more trouble then it's worth I'm looking for a good new or
used cluster with the fuel gauge set up for neg ground. Gordons has them
for $99 this month but the sale ends tomorrow and I'd have to do the gas
gauge conversion to it on top of that. Any of you neg ground experts
want to do a partial trade for my gauge? Let me know before tomorrow or
I'll just order one from Gordons and make a stab at the gas gauge
conversion myself.

Hi Craig,

You can sometimes get the chrome ring off to dismantle the gauge
cluster but it rarely comes off in perfect shape. Repairing the gray
area in a way that looks right is almost impossible, though I have
found a paint that just about exactly matches the original gray
color. The problem is that the original paint tends to stretch
around and distort the lettering. It's not worth fooling around with
unless your dealing with very minor damage to the gray area. Just
get a new one from Hugh. I've done many of the negative ground
conversions and I also calibrate to gauge to give a pretty accurate
reading, or at least as accurate as you can get given such a flat gas
tank. I've done them directly for people and I've also done one for
a customer of Hugh's that Hugh sent to me. I don't know what he
charged for my part of the job but I charged Hugh $50, which is what
I charge folks directly. I like to get the whole gauge cluster sent
to me. I say that because the housing protects the fuel gauge during
shipment. If you send just the fuel gauge without the housing, you
have to do a bit of special packing to protect the delicate insides.
