Hi-

Email submissions with attachments are not coming through. I suspect
others are having the same problem.

I suggest that we put attachments under "Files" on eGroup and refer to the
location. It appears that we may have a limit of 20 MB for files. If this
is the case, we may have to buy more space or start deleting files.

I, for one, am happy and excited that we can post photos. Seeing the
pictures of Celina in real time made it feel like I was there (although
sick in bed at the Holiday Inn so I couldn't get out).

I'm not sure but I think Mike Israel has turned that option off within the
group. You might check to see if he can assist you in getting it delivered
with your email.

Unfortunately, I turned the attachments option off
almost a year ago. The ability to include attachments
also enabled viruses to be attached and some did get
passed through the list.

I suppose I could consider allowing known, long-time
subscribers to include attachments. This would be on
a request basis and the requestor would need to attest
that they are actively using a current release of a
leading anti-virus program and are regularly receiving
virus definition updates. Even then I am not
completely sure. What does the list membership think?

Hi,
I vote for tuning the attachments back on.

Re: Re: Attachments

Sorry guys, I spoke too soon. Yahoogroups does not
allow me to set only certain accounts to have
attachments permission. It is all or none, in which
case I am inclined to leave it as none.

Do note that there is the Yahoogroup files area
available. Likewise, if there is an attachment that
really needs to go to the list you can send it to me
and I will distribute on your behalf.

Regards,

Mike Israel

Mike, there is almost always a 'scan for viruses" option before such a download.
Yahoo has one.
It does not help them, to plug their system with viruses, so they include this.

I vote to have attachments sent to you for distribution to the group
only, in this way we are not susceptible to incoming virus traffic
which at this point we are not sure what types of defense each or our
group members may have installed on their systems. If we open it up
to all, many members may be afraid to log in and join the chat, which
would be a great loss to the group. I've been there when something
made it through to my system from a group and I have what I believe
is good software.
Thank you,
Marty in WI

I think that we should continue blocking attachments. No just for
the viral reason but because they contribute a lot of excess to the
download. Some folks have the email set up to include the message
they are replying to as an attachment. the current systems strips
those out.

If we did some housekeeping there is no reason these things can't go
ito the files section. Then you can scan them before downloading and
only those interested will be impacted by file size.

My vote is to leave it off ... no attachments. Such stuff could be easily
uploaded into the files area and if somebody wanted to they could download
it themselves and send it back directly to the requestor. Thus only the
interested folks take the bandwidth hit. And as John mentioned, it would
be easier to find later if you really wanted it.

Still waiting for the picture to arrive. Should I wait longer or did it
get lost?
