Pirate ship first in Venetian Night parade

HUSTISFORD - A brilliantly lighted and decorated pirate ship manned
by Captain Hook and a crew of swashbuckling pirates captured top
honors in Hustisford's 2005 Venetian Night boat parade Saturday night.
St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Hustisford, positioned pirates
allegedly fighting over treasure both on the ship and on land. The on-
shore pirates handed out their own "treasures" to children in the
audience, while the ship urged spectators to "Find Your Treasure at
St. Michael's." The church earned $1,000 for their efforts.
Second place, $400, went to Butternut Isle Caribbean Cruisers,
entered by Larry Weisensel, Sun Prairie. That boat featured large
lighted palm trees swaying in the breeze, with an island crew playing
and dancing to a Caribbean beat.
Third place, $300, went to Douglas Carroll, Hustisford, for what he
described as "three bumpkins presenting a water and light
extravaganza."
Encouraged by Hustisford Postmaster Maureen Dragich, the Dragich
family, Germantown, earned the $200 fourth place for an elaborate two-
sided pontoon boat display featuring a map of Wisconsin with an arrow
directing people to Hustisford. Lighted outlines of an airplane,
train, and an automobile cycled to depict ways people have reached
the village over the years.
Wayne Schmiedlin, Juneau, converted a 1963 amphicar into his version
of an experimental aircraft capable of land and water maneuvers. He
earned the $100 fifth prize.
