Amphicar on the Internet, forums, groups and the club

There is a bit of confusion so lets clarify:

The International Amphicar club maintain the website Amphicar.com. This is
paid for by the club subscriptions. It has all the classified stuff,
technical info and a members only section. Any suggestions as to how it can
be improved are always welcomed by the club.

Mike Israel set up the Yahoo list some time ago as a way for all Amphicar
lovers (not just owners) around the world to keep in touch. It is absolutely
nothing to do with the club. Mike does all the maintenance and covers the
cost himself, if anyone needs flowers (in the USA) then follow the link on
the Yahoo group FAQ and a few cents go his way to help with upkeep.
Personally I think it works very well, I subscribe to about a dozen Yahoo
groups on different subjects and email filters ensure the messages are
saved, stored and collated. I don't see any need at all to change or
replace it.

Of course anyone can start a new forum and I'm sure a few people would join
an Amphicar forum but forums have major disadvantages:
You need web access
You have to remember another login/password
They are often not regionalised (date and time is wrong for the
majority)
They are not always available
There is significant cost to maintain so are never really free (or don't
stay free)
They are in the most part a pain to use !

My 2 Euros worth.

>>>You need web access - Don't they all? ;)
>>>You have to remember another login/password - Use the same one as
Yahoo when you login if this is a concern
>>>>They are often not regionalised (date and time is wrong for the
majority) - AACA is regionalised to fit your time zone world wide
>>>>They are not always available - AACA 24/7
>>>>There is significant cost to maintain so are never really free
(or don't stay free) - Been free for years, they have no plans to
change
>>>>They are in the most part a pain to use ! - AACA site is pro
setup, VERY intuitve, moderated and secure.

If enough folks want me to add the AACA site to the choices
available, I will. (remember, I'm NOT suggesting replacing yahoo,
just offering another choice) Solely out of great respect for the
hard work and GREAT efforts Mike Isreal has made, I have not created
it.

It will be up to all of you to let me know if another forum is
welcome and wanted. Let me know here or ping me privately. I have no
interest in creating any strife or hard feelings. I just feel that
Yahoo has less to offer. It's your call folks! Please don't shoot
me, I am just the messenger! ;)

Capt' John, I applaud your desire to seek the
best for the IAOC. I too hope we someday make
a forum for the IAOC members. Mike's Yahoo
Board is a blessing for ALL Amphi folks and I
never want to diminish that in any way. After
a few months post-transition to the new IAOC
Board we could re-visit your idea and perhaps
create such a forum exclusive to IAOC memebers...
another benefit of being a memeber if you will.
Just my humble opinion.
