Amphi on Ebay a SCAM?

The Amphicar on Ebay right now located in W. Virginia doesnt seem right. Seller wont answer questions and I remember seeing it listed a while ago. Please correct me and I am sorry if I am wrong!:032:

It is also rather odd that it is only a 5 day auction. Normally on cars
like this its a 7 or 10 day auction. So I'm with you, something just
doesn't seem right about the description.

Here is a little more info on the ebay auction 230388443768 canitfloat
mentioned. Susan looked at the auction on ebay and then went googling and
found the following
http://www.carpictures.com/vehicle/06F4E501117193.html

Its obviously the same car, whats interesting though is the seller on ebay
left the picture with the vin number out of the auction. The vin # for this
car is 106 522 350 and the engine number is GK2463HF.
The link above dates back to May of 2006 so those pictures have been
floating around on the web for 3+ years. The vin number also appears on the
Amphicar.com website in the vin registry with information correct for the
earlier auction Susan found.

Susan sent him a list of questions and the seller has not yet responded.
I'm more and more convinced that this is definitely a scam.

That's a good cautionary example. Whenever considering a purchase of a rare
vehicle like an Amphi, always use whatever other resources you can find to
check out the details of the offer and the credentials and reputation of the
seller. In the Amphi community, you have this ALD and the IAOC.

Must have been a scam, cause now it's gone.
Not even in the completed listings.
The add just sounded too...slick.

Oddly enough my wife got a reply from the "seller" a little while ago. Here
is the email:

Interestingly he didn't include the auction number and his usage of the
English language while good is lacking in areas (not that mine is any better
at times!).

But heck for $9000 we could add a very nice Amphicar to our stable of cars,
if only it were true :)

Hello,

I'm really sorry for this late reply but I've been very busy lately and away
from a computer. The car is located in Morgantown,WV. It has all the
papers(complete). This was my son's car who passed away 4 months ago, it
only brings me bad memories. I want this transaction to be smooth as I am
caught in the middle of some very important events and I don't have much
time at my disposal. The car is in perfect condition, no scratches, no
special marks, no need for additional repairs what so ever, no leaks, rust
free. A great car ready to be yours. It has a clear title.
The price is $9,000 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US.
There are no other costs regarding this transaction. Regarding payment I am
aware of the eBay's rules and we will use Vehicle Purchase Protection
Program which will hold the payment until you receive the car. If you are
interested please provide me the following informations necessary to take a
decision:
-full name
-address for shipping
-any negative feedback and if so .... for what reason .
If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay during
the next hours with details about your purchase.

Thank you,
Albert

Four big scam tip-offs in "sellers" email.

1) Email sent after auction.
2) SOB story
3) Free shipping / delivery
4) Price too good to be true.

And his email contained ALL four tip-offs!

Susan sent him an email saying we are very interested and how can we make
this deal work. It'll be interesting to see how far it goes before he
realizes HE is being scammed.
