Old Amphi ads on eBay

Peter Fredsal has one on eBay now that he mentions he had never seen an overhead shot like it. There is another ad that shows that same shot. I happen to have the original hand drawn artist concept for it and you can find scans on the website that I added several years back. As you can see below, it was originally to be vertical but ended up being horizontal. Still a great shot!

I have several boxes of memorobilia that came with a car I puchased in Cleveland from a lady who's father had 2 dealerships there. The car even had a great story about the famous 4 some who rode in it. 95% of the vintage ads on the site are scans I produced from that collection. I gave away many of the duplicates to many of the folks who were at the Holiday Inn in Celina that year.

Wow, what great stuff! Thanks for sharing!

And, maybe I missed something, but, "The car even had a great story about the famous 4 some who rode in it."

Who were they? What was the story? Enquiring minds want to know!

Greg,

You're welcome! I've ALWAYS shared what I had with the club. A significant amount of what's on the .com site is from my collection. With much more never seen.

The famous four car has a long story behind it. I had been contacted thru one of dozens of ads I have running around the world and for about 3 years we talked back and forth but she never sent photos. One day Cindy called me saying a man was there and had made her an offer on the car. She told me what it was and I told her to tell him NO! He was blatently going to try to steal the car by offering her mere pennies on the dollar. Typical for that guy who I later found out that I knew him. I ended up paying her over 3x what she was going to sell it to him for.

On the way to Celina my nephew Daryl and I stopped there to inspect the car and pick up some parts she had. We filled the bed, back seat and the whole Amphi with spare parts! Had no idea there was that much stuff. There were boxes of memorobilia from the dealerships from factory photos, letters, and a set of factory tools! She was thrilled I was honest with her and that her dad's last Amphi would go to a good home. I gave away quite a few pieces from those boxes to a few friends who were there in my hotel room in Celina that year.

As we were leaving in the rain Cindy stops me and asks if she told me the story of why they kept that car. Cindy's father had 2 Amphicar dealerships in Cleveland and used one car for boating reports and advertising for the local WIXY station. I said I thought it was his last car and that's why. She said in August of 1966 when she was 9, her dad (in the car in this pic) got her out of school so they could go pick up 4 guys from the airport in the Amphicar. She knew it would be cozy, but her dad insisted on the AMphi as transport. They get to the airport to see large crowds as they drove to where they would pick up these guys. I'll only say the 1st names to keep their identity secret. John, George, Paul and Ringo!!!!! Yes, the Beatles have ridden in this Amphicar.

I have spoken with a man who wrote a book on this specific concert in Cleveland as it would be the 2nd to last live concert they gave, of course Candlestick park was the last. He said he spoke with several who remembered the strange little car there.

Basically I attribute it to Kharma or Amphi-kharma if you will! The memorobilia and parts are worth what I paid for the car. Now I am not sure what the actual value is but I don't care. Cindy is looking for the photos her dad took that day and so is the author of "The Beatles in Cleveland".

As a Beatles fan, I LOVE this car!

Cindy is not one of those people who doesn't work fast. It took 3 years to buy her car and she wanted to sell it! I am hopeful she'll find some and the author of the book is also on the hunt. We have several 1st hand witness accounts so far. She said they only went from the airport to the location of the Beatles bus or dressing rooms, she wasn't specific. No mention they went swimming, probably wasn't time or security for that.

The memorobilia is all over the site! My goal in collecting this stuff was to share it with all anyway and then donate to the club museum. That is not going to happen now. Some sems to have been taken down since I ran the place. The for sale ads have a sign from the dealership at the top, there is a page of vintage ads that is all from my collection except for the Santa's village ad (from Dave) and the Cadbury's ad, another page of "Special amphicars" that has the original letter listing specs for the rescue Amphicars, on the front page is my ceramic "Amphicar Captain" badge. There is so much more I was in the process of sharing but "circumstances" prevented me from doing so.

John - that is some fantastic story. You are a man of many interesting
tales and that Beatles story is great. Thanks for sharing it. You and I
already shared some interesting tales of Skyliners and Retractibles, but this
Beatles tale was over the top. Vic with the 67 "Split Personality" in

Vic, coming from you, that is quite a compliment! You have many stories of your own that I find very interesting and frankly, worthy of a movie or at least a handy pamphlet! ;) I have been blessed to have some great experiences (and good luck sometimes) most never get to enjoy just as others get to do things I didn't get to do or see.

After I broke my back (1-3-82) a roommate of mine (Curtic Yarbourough Cale, race drivers cousin) in Craig Rehab Hospial told me that there a million things to do, I am really only able to do 10,000 of them and of the 10,000 things, logistically I may be able to do 1000 of them. So I'll concentrate on that 1000 items as my "bucket list." I've hung out on stage with rock and roll, TV and Porn stars, traveled this great country from coast to coast, lived in S. America and met countless awesome people so I can't say my life has been boring! ;)

The first colord ad here is a B&W ad I added color to about 14 years ago. The 2nd one is a matchbook cover.

Perhaps if someone contacted the WIXY radio station (I see it still exists) and got one of the DJ's/ Managers excited about it, then they could ask listeners if anyone remembers this event and perhaps has any photos?

I'll gladly do it but don't want to step on anyone's toes (perhaps I should contact the person writing the book? -- do you have contact info?

Great story.

The only toes here are mine, and if you're willing to try to help, PLEASE do!! I would love for somebody to locate a pic of the Beatles in my car! I hadn't thought about asking listeners for help! THANK YOU!!

I have spoken with Dave Schwensen (the Author) many times while he was still reseaching his book. This intrigued him a lot! We found a few who remembered the car, but nobody had pictures. This is why I have not really told that story much. That would make this Amphi the coolest one ever! (at least for me)

WIXY AM is long gone, but there is a tribute website. WIXY is now an FM station.
