I always found attaching a flag to the Amphicar flag post to be a crude affair. I wanted to attach small eyelets to the pole itself at the points where the flag rings are but couldn't find tiny screw eyes that had a machine thread on them and I didn't want to mess up the chrome by welding small rings to the shaft. I ended up finding small screw eyes (about 1/8 inch ID) with wood screw threads on them, drilled small holes in the shaft at the proper locations and glued a strip of wood inside the shaft, behind the holes. I then simply screwed the eyelets into the wood and put the parts back together. I attach the flag to the eyelets with small rings, like you get from a key shop. The finished assembly looks great and works perfectly. It may be the hardest way imaginable to do it but it it works great and looks like the way the factory should have done it, and no clips and ties that slide around on the shaft in the wind.
