Hi-

What's a Amphicar without sun visors?

With all the parts cars out there, some one must be able to part with a part
such as sun visors (white or red).

Please. (I will beg for parts.)

On the matter of sun visors, please see the ever-growing Amphicar.net
Universal Parts List Questionnaire Results at
http://www.amphicar.net/partsinfo.htm and look for an entry by Arnold Hite

Hear me O web toed horde! If any of you KNOW of some parts substitution
tips, please DO help out at http://www.amphicar.net/partstips.html. And
folks who aren't overly fond of Internet forms or even typing can get a nice
handy old fashioned form that they can print out, fill out by hand and mail
to the Bilgemaster in something we oldtimers used to call an envelope with
little sticky things called stamps at
http://www.amphicar.net/library/partsform.txt.

About using the VW Bus Sunvisors: I've been to several VW car shows
searching for Amphicar parts. I spotted these sun on 1960's style VW Buses.
They were the same style and just a bit longer. I thought the only problem
to be that the mounting holes were a little different. There are so many
old Vows that you can find any part you need from several vendors. I think
I ordered from West Coast Metric. When I posted that substitution to the
parts substitution data base, I hadn't installed the sun visors yet. The
problem I have since discovered is that the VW sun aren't stiff enough at
the hinge. Since the steel framing around the window tilts back a little on
the Amphicar compared to the VW bus, the sun visor has a tendency to swing
back in your face. Obviously I doubt anyone would be happy with my
suggested parts substitution. Since I've already installed them I plan to
fix the problem with a small patch of Velcro.

Sorry,

<<Hi all. Has anyone found sunvisors...>>

JC Whitney catalog lists sun visors to fit 52-79 VW Bus for $40 a pair. These
are described as having the support rods, however visors for 65-72 convertibles
do not have them. Suppose someone could order both sets and return one (or
both) sets if they don't fit correctly. Please let us all know.

I ordered a replacement set from Hugh several years ago. They look like the
originals with the exception of the mounting block. The three mounting screw
hole pattern is reversed which required redrilling the holes. It covered the
old holes. In the new catalog, part #12-46-37 Sun Visors - says identical
replacement to original. Does anyone know if that means the mounting pad too?
