Runs and drives!

My blue 64 runs and drives! It has been a seven year effort with help from
Bill Syx for the body work and much procrastination on my part.
I am about 2 weeks from swimming. The drive consisted of 2 laps around my
circular loop (about a quarter mile) while sitting on a milk crate. The
transmission seems quite noisy while moving in first gear and the brakes
need serious help. After I get the seat in I'll bleed the brakes and drive
it on the street. Hopefully the transmission noise is "normal" and only
seems loud.

Congratulations Bill!
I met Bill last year on a trip to Washington and have to say his car
looked great. Bill Syx did a great job on the body work. I was an amphi
wana be at the time. So it was my first up close look at an Amphicar in
20 or so years. Thanks for taking the time to show me your cars and
glad to hear your almost ready to swim. You helped my Amphicar
addiction right on into ownership!

Bill, I would imagine your transmission and engine noise "seems"
loud because you have your seats and flooring out. Having those
pieces in place makes a world of difference in noise levels. Sound
insulation helps as well. Bottom line: Amphi trannys are noisey!

I thought my White Amphi was really quiet until I rode 10 miles at 60
MPH in an Amphi with an NOS tranny. It was absolutely quiet. It also
might help that the owner had mixed in the tranny oil about 50% of
something called Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I've heard from a few sources
that the stuff works really well and quiets minor transmission noises.
I'm going to try it in my White car soon. Some trannys are really
bad though and you might try to have it gone through by someone who's
trained in doing German gear boxes. I've heard that it takes a
different kind of skill to make German transmissions work well.

I had a lot of fun at Celina. It was nice to meet with other Amphi
fanatics.
