RE Lake Mirror Classic at Lakeland

For any of you Amphicar people who have been to the Lake Mirror Classic,
you know that it is quite an elegant event with a display of beautiful
automobiles arranged around Lake Mirror in the center of Lakeland, Florida. In
addition to 120 hand picked vehicles which are displayed around the lake in
the Concours d' Elegance, there are an additional 400 cars outside of the
lake area on the surrounding streets. There are more than enough cars to
keep you busy admiring them for several hours. Additional attractions are a
number of antique or classic Wooden Boats as well as our unique Amphicars.

The big date this year is Saturday October 16th. For the past five years
that the Amphicars have participated, the weather has been wonderful, though
on one occasion, it rained cats and dogs the previous night, but stopped
sharp at 8 am on Saturday and was beautiful and warm the rest of the day.

This is the 12th annual Lake Mirror Classic and the 6th time the Amphicars
have been invited to take part. We are also situated by the lake and at
2:00 Saturday afternoon, we will all "Splash In" together following a short
parade of the Amphicars. The crowd, understandably, gets very excited at
actually seeing our Amphicars, let alone watching us go into and out of the
water. Lake Mirror is a relatively small lake, probably one half mile in
diameter and is not available for boating by the public at any time during the
year. The setting is Art Deco themed and beautifully landscaped. Except
as a beautiful lake area, the only time it has watercraft is for this
Classic Event. Three years ago, they installed a permanent pair of ramps to
replace the improvised metal set up they had used previously. The new split
ramps are an improvement, but they have realized that for the Amphicars, the
lack of a solid wide ramp is not ideal. Consequently, the Department of Parks
and Recreation is considering paving the center section, but whether or
not that will ever be done, in view of the limited usage, is difficult to
predict.

Regardless, the Lake Mirror Classic is an elite and outstanding event and
an excellent chance for us to show off our unique Amphicars to an admiring
public. We also have a good time socializing and looking over all the
cars. We are indeed privileged to be invited to participate in such an elegant
event. Registration is $40 before October 1st ( $50 after that date ) and
includes lunch, a nice gift if the pattern of previous years continues, a
"Goody bag" from local merchants and a custom made personalized sign for each
vehicle with a short description or history.

If you wish a registration form, though you can also register on line, the
Website with the form is
_www.lakemirrorclassic.com_ (http://www.lakemirrorclassic.com) You can
also call Ms Ginny Askew who is the Coordinator and Registrar for the show
and she will send you a brochure which has a Registration form included.
Her telephone is

Hope to see you and your Amphicar there. You won't be disappointed.
