do people actually USE this plug to drain/refresh fluid?
I cant imagine how to prevent a friggin MESS!

....Or do most people ignore it, and just use a pump to suck (most of) it out more neatly??

Change oil after the first 350 miles and then every 12000 miles.
"It is recommended to remove the transmission oil when warm by using an automatic oil suction machine with the tube end inserted into the vent hole."
If an automatic oil suction pump is not available, remove both "a" drain plugs as shown.
This operation is rather difficult, and the drained oil can spill into the bilge, requiring draining through the bilge drainplug hole, or cleaned out in other ways.

When I do a restoration I install a plate(VW oil pan, from there old air cooled motors) Under drain plug A . You undo 6.. 10mm bolts and plate comes off leaving a 3 inch hole to get at drain plug,
I will be doing one on car in shop now will take some pics.

Put the drain plate in yesterday, but ran into a snag,, This car(Came from Quebec) is loaded with bondo,, even on the bottom! Had to grind it away to make thin enough to get nuts on the studs I had already welded to the large washer on inside!

Wow! Well thats certainly the better way to get to that stupid lower drain plug! Very nice option to have! Nice work, Gord!
If I were closer i'd have you do it for me . I will have to settle for the suction-pump method. Hopefully the super magnets I epozied to the drain plugs work to collect metal shavings: grind it till ya find it!@#

Only problem is you have to have TRANY OUT TO INSTALL IT, SO ONLY GETS DONE TO CARS WITH MAJOR WORK BEING DONE.
