Introduction, pics of first Amphicar ride/swim

Hello!

I just joined this group, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I have had a
curiousity about
Amphicars for years. I am a Corvair owner, so I have a thing for quirky,
rear-engined cars.


Last month, I attended the Lake Afton All-Wheels Show in Wichita, KS, and I
spotted a
really nice Amphicar at the show. I asked the owner if he ever took it out on
the lake, and
he said "sure." I asked him if he was going to take it out that day, and he says
he was. I
wanted to get some pictures of it, so I asked him when he was going to take it
out. He
smiled and said "how about now?" and told me and my companion to get in. It was
my first
ride/swim in an Amphicar, and it hooked me!

So, I'm not in a position right now to own one, as I need to finish the
restoration of my
Corvair first, and I certainly don't need another project car now. But, I wanted
to join this
group so I could start learning all I can about the Amphicar.

I to have a thing for those rear engine chevys I still own a few
and drive my 63 monza conv. to shows. We also have a past president
of a large citys (unnamed) corvair club and he also owns an
Amphicar. So don't be surprized of the natural love for these little
german cars (They are a blast). Just keep up the work on the corvair
and finish it then look for an amphi in your price range.

Hi Mike,

Yeah, I have a thing for German cars too (first car was a 1973 Opel GT, now I
own two
Porsches and a BMW) so I can see where I will be DOUBLY infected by the
Amphicar... rear-
engined and German.
