i have a '61 amphicar and wasnt aware of the positive battery ground and hooked the battery up backwards
at first things worked but came back later to find that nothing worked
do these cars have a main fuse or fusible linked wires?
how do i go about troubleshooting?

No main fuse or fusible link unless a PO (Previous Owner) put one in. Early cars have a fuseblock in the front trunk on the left wheel well, newer cars have the fuseblock under the dash inside the car. To start you should make sure the battery is fully charged. If that doesn't get you going you are going to have to follow the power and see where it stops. You may have to reflash the generator to polarize it so it can charge. You may want to consider changing the car to negative ground. Very easy to do except for the fuel gauge. There are posts on how to do it. If you join the IAOC (International Amphicar Owners Club) there are files available to members including the wiring diagrams on the website.
