Gibbs Aqua Car in US

I read in my local paper an article apparently from Auto Week that
mentioned that Gibbs had 8 models of their amphibious vehicles being
tested in the Chicago area. The test were to determine which, if any,
of the vehicles would be introduced to the US as a production vehicle.
Starting price $85,000. Gibbs is looking for dealers. I'd sure like
to see one up close. They are great looking rigs. At this price could
there be another production amphib which could out sell the Amphicar?

I have a call in to my uncle on this. He sent me pictures a few months ago of he and his wife sitting in the Gibbs Aquada in Detroit. He is very active in the automotive press association so he might know more about it. I live in chicago and I haven't seen anything in the local papers on the Aquada. The last pictures I saw still showed a lovely car with nice lines but no doors and no roof. I'm not sure at my age I'd want to be jumping over the doors of any car and the weather here makes anything without a top near useless. Although it might work in southern california okay. I'll let folks know if I hear anything related to the car.

It may have been Detroit now that you mention it. I couldn't find the article. Here's the link to the Gibbs website. They have some pretty cool designs.

I just had a long talk with my Uncle and he sent me to the Gibbs Press contact. They were supposed to do some testing in chicago but it was cancelled because the CNBC crew had to be in California for a Honda event. According to them they only have the one model but they're testing various color combinations. My uncle mentioned an SUV/ATV model he saw in video but wasn't much on details. The press folks said they'd give me a call if the managed to set things up in chicago. I'll skip work that day and go down. Hopefully I can convince Dave to play hokey that day too. eric

Reckon I could volunteer to test the Gibbs out here in
San Diego, but if they leave it overnight in my garage
I WILL install a pair of fins. To me, it ain't really
amphibious without some nice FINS!

Speaking of fins... what's up with "Finzilla" Tom? I
haven't received my monthly update photo. That Amphi
has some major fins going on.

Be well, swim safe.

80's, Coastal Living magazine press coverage, free tube
of Amsoil grease for all Amphicars in attendance.
