CELINA SWIM-IN 2014
Here it is . . . the latest update on the Swim-in. Capture the fun! Be here! Meet celebrity tech owners in person!
1964, 50 years ago, Amphicar production expanded with the introduction of the late design Amphicar. Celebration began at the 1964 New York World’s Fair as early, late, and concept Amphicars splashed into Meadow Lake . Well, Grand Lake St. Mary does it even better. On Saturday, July 26th, a floating Amphicar jumps in a swimming pool at the collector car show. Show fun begins at 9:00 AM.
The Swap Meet: After a hot July morning at the car show, the air conditioned Great Hall of the Eagles pulls you inside with over 50 tables loaded with thousands of new, used, and development Amphicar parts. On one side of the hall, Gordon Imports, Inc. tempts you with every Amphicar part imaginable. Don’t forget Gordon’s famous 10% off discount on parts picked up or ordered at the show. On the other side of the hall, John Capone, and possibly Gord Souter, and most likely Dave the Wave will offer an outstanding variety of parts. The fun begins at 9:00 AM to approximately 3:00 PM.
Hands-On Tech Session at The Eagles: In the center tables of the Great Hall, Amphicar repair and restoration experts will demonstrate and answer questions. Here’s the good news. With all those parts surrounding the experts, you can hand the new part to the expert and learn how to install it, all at the same time and place, 1:30 - 2:30 PM.
10,000,000 Dollar Royal Flush Poker Game- Last year was the first year for this new event. No one won the 10,000,000 Dollar first prize with a Natural Royal Flush, so the 10,000,000 Dollars is still available this year. Like last year there will be a specially designed trophy for the winner and prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd highest hand. This is going to be held on Friday afternoon after everyone is back from Otterbein.
Scavenger Hunt-Trivia Contest – This is a new contest that we are adding this year. It will include collecting different items from around Celina, as well as, coming up with answers to some historical and geographic questions about the Celina area. There will be a prize for the winner.
Giant Rubber Duckie – As we all know Rubber Duckies are the unofficial mascot of Amphicars. This year we are going to have a Giant 6’ tall Rubber Duckie as part of the Royal Flush Poker Game and as part of the Parade. It is something to see and will be a real hit as it floats on the Lake and rides in the parade.
Need a Little Help – Goodie Bags Items – A Goodie Bag has traditionally been given to each car that attends the Swim-in. This year we would like to have the Best Goodie Bag ever. We have been soliciting different suppliers for goodies, but we thought we would ask all the members of the club for donations. Maybe you have some samples from your work, extra items laying around that house that relate to Amphicars, or just some fun things you want to get rid of. Maybe you know some business or person who might like to donate something for the goodie bags? You can either bring them with you to Celina or send them to us and we will bring them to Celina and include them in the Goodie Bags. Call Jim Golomb at 224-628-1657 for the ship to address.
