Greetings All,

Just returned from Celina about 3 hours ago. My attendance was a
last minute thing but I am sure glad I made the trip, even without
the Amphi. This was the first club event that I attended and it
exceeded expectations in every way. The chance to see 62+ Amphis
and their owners in one place is an unparalleled event. Marc,
Elizabeth, the town of Celina, and a whole bunch of others are to be
commended for running such a first class event.

I did not have my Amphi with me but I still receieved a royal
reception. I do want to especially thank Bob Nelson and Rob
Vondracek for taking me on as a passenger throughout most of the
event(s). To top it off, they both have cars which wold rate as
some of the best in existence.

My receipt of an "Amphibian of the Year" award while greatly
appreciated was certainly an unnecessary surprise. I truly enjoy
providing this service, it has been more of a pleasure than a
chore. Still, I am honored to be recognized in the same company as
as Hugh, Bill, John, and Mark. So, to keep it simple, thank you all
again.

I do have to note that because of the list I felt like I was walking
into a gathering of friends even though I had only previously met a
hand full of members. I will confess that in most cases the
pictures I had drawn in my mind did not match the reality. Some
select examples ...

1) Hugh Gordon. Yes, I too have spent many hours on the phone with
Hugh but we had never actualy met. Now, during one or more of those
conversations, Hugh mentioned to me that he was very large and
overweight. This meant that I spent the first hour at Celina
expecting to encounter a 6 ft. tall chap weighing in at 350+
pounds. I will state for the record that Hugh should probably not
be modeling Spedo swimwear but he is in much better shape than he
lets on!

2) Amphipoda (aka John Edelstein). Anyone who reads amphipoda's
postings has to wonder if he this fellow is running with both
props. :-) The image here was probably a cross between Willy Wonka
and Robyn Williams. OK, in John's case the reality fits the image
but his mermaid wife is a babe so we will let him slide! Seriously,
both great folks.

Anyway, I will leave it to others to post the event details. I just
wanted to chime in that it is a GREAT event which everyone should
try to attend (with or without their Amphi). With luck I will
return next year and my own Amphi will join me this time.
