Amphicar in a swimming pool

I could of course build the pool around the car and just fill it up but the water supply at my house is not great - just half inch pipe - so pool will take at least a week to fill. I don't think there is any straightforward way to lift the car into the pool so only way I can think of is support the car on blocks - build the pool around it - fill the pool - somehow remove the blocks so the car drops in and floats - then drain water out when photos have been taken. </font>

year in Wisconsin!! We just overfill the pool in the fall & when it
freezes we drive in!! Only problem we have is no one knows how to get

But, if you assume the waterline to be the trim strip, then maybe 30" deep. Since your pool is 216 sq ft, then you need about 540 cubic feet, or about 4,000 gallons (15,000 liters). Assuming your hose doesn't have an intentional flow restrictor, it should deliver about 3 gallons per minute. That means you could float your Amphi in about 22 hours.</span></font>

You've probably considered a ramp? Up and over the side? Having a pool myself I
appreciate the amount of time the dang things take to care for. Great pictures
for sure but beware the costs. A pool has become defined to me as a hole in the
ground into which one pours money. Your Liner needs to be seriously protected
in any case. Good luck and I'll look for those pictures.

Since an Amphi weighs about 2600 pounds, to float, it needs to displace that

<font face="Arial" size="2">I'm going back to the idea of filling the pool slowly with rainwater and then getting the car in. A number of benefits, I can easily divert the house gutter to it and although the water won't be asclean as tap water it will be clean enough and much cheaper (would cost equiv of at least $100 to use the tap). </font>

<font face="Arial" size="2">I've gota flatbed trailer, if I put Amphicar on this and using my wifes 4x4 reverse it onto blocks it would be easy the get the back of the trailer level with the top of the pool. Then use the ramps to get the car into the pool - would have to extend them a bit but should be do-able. Will need to be careful as pool is less than 4ft longer than the Amphicar. </font>

Bernie -
That was our own Arnold Hite's car in Texas about 3 years ago I
think, for a car show. They set up the pool liner, drove the car
onto the liner and filled the pool with the car already in the pool.

<font size="2">Whence comes this sudden intercontinental mania for chlorinating Amphicars in backyard swimming pools, I wonder? Perhaps this isa new variant on the regular winter "cruise blues," that syndrome not unlike cabin fever, whereby the wan and forlorn Amphicar, sporting a frosty pair of long-too-dry props subconsciously alerts its owner to its discomfort...the amphibian's equivalent to a cheerleader's prom date moaning with a really rotten case of "blueballs," only in this casecommunicated by the Amphi at the subsonicunconcious level with its owner.</font>

<font size="2">Assuming that the alternative, and perhaps more practical,"release" of this discomfort achieved by vigorously applying liberal synthetic lubricants to affected areas of the undercarriage is not chosen by the owner, then might I offer two suggestions:</font>

Take the opportunity of an Amphi's immersion in a such a still-standing body of water to also dump a gallon or soof cheap black molasses (derived from sugar beet, not cane) into the pool. The natural anti-oxidation chelating properties of such molasses is a matter ofrecord on this List and elsewhere. Even this extremely low concentration of such chelating agents can't help but do your Amphi the power of good in its nooks and crannies, especially if liberally treated afterwards withWaxOyl or, better yet,AMSOil Heavy Duty Metal Protectant Spray. This may turn out to be a popular alternative... dunking the car in a
pool... but I think a little bit longer pool is appropriate to make
turning easier. Weather here is warm enough for swiming but finding
water is turning out to be a challenge... only 1 third of an inch of
rain since last October, and we were under budget by 16 inches last
year... getting just over 50% (19 inches) what what we were supposed
to get. I think somebody speculated we might get some rain in March
... or was that April? So to who ever is in charge of the spigot,
open it a crack please!

I know I am way late in adding my comment about the picture of the Amphicar in a Swimming pool in what looks like a fairground, but I haven't seen an e-mail from the Hites,and I am next to certain thatit was Arnold and Sharon Hite's Amphicar in a Swimming Pool at the Charlottle Motor Speedway Fairgrounds a year or two ago as they live fairly close by. It was a done as a "Gimmick" for some event - the car show or fair or something. Arnold could enlighten us unless he already has and my spam filter filteredhis commentout.
