Looking for an Amphicar Enthusiast – Family Car Needs a Second Life

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to this group in hopes of finding the right person for a very special (but very neglected) Amphicar.

My grandfather purchased the car years ago and had begun restoring it before he passed away nearly 30 years ago. Since then, it has been sitting in a garage and has unfortunately deteriorated over time. It hasn’t been maintained, and I’ll be honest, I don’t know exactly what condition the individual components are in at this point.

That said, this car means a lot to my family, especially my mother. Letting it go hasn’t been easy for her, and part of that is wanting to know it won’t just be scrapped or forgotten.

At this stage, I’m not trying to oversell it or pretend it’s something it’s not. It likely needs a full restoration, or it may be best suited as a donor vehicle for someone already working on an Amphicar project. What I am hoping for is to connect with someone who understands what these cars are, appreciates them, and might be interested in either restoring it or putting its parts to good use. Ideally, I’d love to be able to tell my mom that it’s going to someone who genuinely values it

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, I’m happy to share more details, photos, and location information.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi Adam
Im in Quincy Massachusetts and have a blue 62. Im retired and could use a project to keep busy but not looking for a complete restoration. My car is running fine with a few little things that keep me active in the garage.
Could you give me some more info, location, photos, and contact info.
In 2005 I restored a red 67 and it came out nice. I had fun working on it and would like to work on another one. I have a car hauler trailer and a nice workshop.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
Brian

Hi Adam
A few shots of my restoration in 2005. I sent out bodywork, paint, and wiring. I did everything else. I'm not a mechanic. I'm a retired shop teacher who enjoys his garage and bringing projects back to life.
