For Sale - 1964 Amphicar

Lost storage space, must sell NOW. Amphicar 770 serial 100350,
originally blue, not run since about 1977, not wet for some years
before that. I've owned it since 1994 and just don't have time or
interest. Complete car, less than usual rust but needs rear
quarters, battery floor, and rockers. Engine turns free,
transmissions turn, car still fully assembled. Missing only rear
bumper, marine light, and light pole. Bilge blower intact and
complete with all controls.

Includes new windshield, set of Gordon's stainless hubcaps, clutch
and throttle cables, and other spares totaling about $1,000.
Everything $12,500 or best offer.

Thats a shame Karl.

If anyone is interested in the car I live a few miles from Karl. I
spent a fair amount of time with him a few years back on a roadtrip
to help Captain John pick up his first Amphi. On the way back we
stopped to look at some Triumph cars and he really proved he knew
his stuff.

My opionion is he's an honest broker. There are others in the
chicago area that could go check the car out if anyone out of town
is interested. I'm not nearly qualified to do that.

Apologies for clogging the list with this -- the commercial messages
and things that should be taken off-line are much of why I don't read
the list too often any more. However, the several calls and e-mails
I've received after yesterday's unfortunate posting here have
prompted me to respond publicly.

First off, I'd like to thank all the great people who've called and
posted me since Friday when I advertised my Amphicar for sale.
Within hours I heard from long-time (and new) friends John Bevins,
Eric Mattlin, Dave the Wave, Amphipoda, and Mark Richardson - some
with interest in the car but most just calling or e-mailing to say
they were sorry that I was leaving the Amphicar world.

These are people like most of the rest of us -- in love with the
Amphicar, not the money they can make from Amphicars and Amphicar
people. You guys are what makes this such a great group, and you
make it hard to sell my car. Thanks one and all for your kind words
and friendship !! And there are so many more people with whom I
haven't necessarily spoken recently, but who are a part of the fabric
of the Amphicar Club - people who have given selflessly to make the
club grow and help others enjoy their Amphicars - Mike Israel and
Bill Connelly come to mind immediately, along with so many more with
whom I've never spoken but whose names are familiar to all of us
because they've given so much to the list and the club. What a great
group !!

Despite any posts to the contrary, my car is still available to a
sincere Amphicar restorer. I'm not in financial distress, and I
have no intention of dumping it for less than I put into it 12 years
ago. In fact, I'd much rather donate it than do that, or even just
store it for another 12 years.

It's an honest, typically-rusted, fully-assembled, complete,
authentic car, missing only a handful of things that I tried to
detail in my ad. It's not a piece of junk, and it's for sale only
because I hate to see it taking up space if I'm not going to have
time to restore it any time soon.

I'm not really a big fan of eBay, but maybe this is eBay's true
value - the bottom-feeders can place their low bids and the serious
buyers can place theirs too, all in public view.

Several people have expressed a sincere interest in obtaining the car
for a fair price, to restore themselves or to have it restored, and
that may be what will happen. Alternatively, I may have someone with
excellent metal skills and more time than I have do the body work
while I attend to the mechanicals, and then I'd keep it. Time will
tell.

Again, I apologize for clogging the list with my personal trivia, but
the several calls and e-mails pursuant to yesterday's unfortunate
message have prompted me to respond.
