Well for all of you that missed the Chat on Yahoo Monday night @9 est
I will relay my sad story of Wrecking Amphi.
It was a beautiful Saturday in Ohio 65 degrees sunny and so I decide
to take amphi out of the winterizing stage and go swimming.
I grab Phyllis and Allie (the German Shepard) and head to Ceasers
Creek lake by the house for a swim. What a great day no wakes no
boats no wind and plenty of Feb sunshine. after an hour or so we
decide to head to our favorite little island place and let the dog
run ,all summer I love pulling up on the island and amaze the boaters
nice picnic tables and a good gravel base. WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the
lake is down about 15 foot and as we were heading in we were about 50
foot away from shore and hit 3 tree stumps under the water and amphi
is lifted completly out of the water, the water is below the bottom
of the doors and amphi is not budging at all I get on the hood and
rock back and forth I get on the rear deck and rock back and forth i
throw the anchor out and try pulling myself off nothing it is not
moving at all. Water is 40 degrees and 7 foot deep remember the no
other boat part of this story. finally about half an hour later a
bass boat comes flying by and waves at us and keeps going another 10
minutes pass and he comes back saying he thought it was strange the
way we were sitting in the water (Thank God) we break 3 ski ropes
trying to pull amphi off the stumps and it still does not budge not
even a half an inch. Finally another Bass boat shows up and wonders
what we are doing. Well I finally suggest that they take these 200 hp
monsters and fly by me and create a huge wake and maybe this will get
us off. So off they go I am rocking on the front hood Phyllis has 2
life jackets on and is sure we have a big hole in the bottom and we
are going to sink. I have phyllis driving the car and the boats fly
by and after the 6th time by the car rotates a little off of 1 stump
of course when this happens one of the props dig into the stump. we
then tie on the 4th rope on the front bumper and they can finally
pull us off. I head back to the dock and pull out .
Damage:
Left prop has no blades now we know why they are nylon so they do not
take out the transmission.
Front: has a dent in the bottom where it hit a stump
Rear Bumper : Ccocked but held no water leakage would not suggest
towing with this but had no choice POR 15 and gluvit held it all
together.
paint scraped off the bottom but other wise ok
Moral: There is a reason we winterize these cars you shouldn't drive
them in the WINTER !!!!!!
