Looks like this one will be up for auction at Scottsdale 2010.

Of course I have a hard time understanding how it has "mostly original paint" when it is not an original factory color??

It looks like BS white to me???? Then again, my wife keeps telling me I am color blind!

The overspray all over the engine compartment tells me they couldn't be bothered with covering anything up before fogging paint in there. Amature attempt at detailing. Better off power washing to make it sanitary instead of trying to hide flaws with paint.

This type of "quickie" actually deminishes the value of what otherwise appears to be a good example of a decent original. Can't tell the true color as the photos are over corrected also by somebody who tried to hard with Photoshop (or similar) without proper training.

I would be surprised if it gets to the mid-$40s.

Take your old ones to any reputable upholstery shop and you should have no problem getting them re-popped quickly at a reasonable price. Have them use the plastic backer board so they won't warp when wet.

My upholstery guy whips 'em out and includes every stitch line just as in the originals. The line along the bottom is almost always left out.

There will be a real nice RED amphicar at Barrett,s.Rick From Ont. just finished it and a Camaro conv. he,s taken down
I was at his place in Nov, when he was almost done it and has done a real good job of resto.
I am back home in Ont. and looked at my interior stock,,I have 2 door panels and 2 rear panels in red/ white...They were part of my NOS stock in 2002.
I put them in a white car I had,but removed them when I sold it in 2004.
$400.00 for 4 pcs.
Generation 5 interior kits now aval.These have heat seam tops(in white only)
just like the Original door panels.

Holger- Sure, amigo! I'm the guy with doing the trailer and scooter setup behind my Amphi and my $$$ is committed for a while. A customer is a customer so I don't want Gord to lose a potential sale. I'll get to it "one of these days" or maybe they'll still be available if your guys don't make a deal. My front driver panel rubs the door in a few places and the corner attachments have broken through. Orrr... I live about 10 miles from Mexico and have a lot of work done there. Holger - My one and only German story... during the late 1970's there was a company of German soldiers stationed HERE in Yuma, Arizona. They were here for the runoff testing between the Leopard Main Battle Tank (German) and our M-1 Abrams tank (US) for NATO. They became well liked and integrated into the community. I was involved in this testing and made many friends. Each soldier regardless of rank was authorized the shipment of one automobile back to Germany at the end of their 2-year tour. As I was president of the local corvette club (then), we advised and helped to ship four early 60's Corvettes back "home" including one '65 big-block. I'll bet they are part of the European show circuit even now. - azpaul50

Originals or re-pops? If I am preserving a survivor like my Museum Amphi, I only want original or TRUE N.O.S. parts. When doing a restoration, re-pops are fine. My upholstery guy reproduces every single detail, every stitch, every hole even if they aren't seen. Exact is exact. It not only has to look correct, but it needs to act correct too. So it really depends on what you have in mind, which is right for you.

As I am always sriving for the best, My interior kits have improved over the years, Started making them in 2001 for resale. and have sold over 200 kits now!Biggest problem I have is the supplyers change there colours and just when your set.. there gone! and you look again, Yellow has always been a problem but is now solved , for now,. Tangerine, perfect, Grey a-ok, and Red theres always lot to chose from,, I like it a bit brighter than stock.Another colour I now stock is Blue, goes great with blue cars,(then put a blue cloth top on it.)My kits come with all the side panels,(3 on each side)) cut out exact as originals as I use a NOS panel for template,The pouches are nice and tight, not sagging out, and the ones with white at the top now have HEATseams, instead of sewn lines,, just like the Originals,I can not do this in the Grey thou,.. The rear back rest is pre made of all new material and is drop in ready, new foam ,material and topping is supplyed for the conv. humps.,and front and rear bottoms are ready to hog ring(supplyed) on.
front back rests are tight, but flexable over the seat...A extra feature that is avalable is the Amphicar crest sewn into the rear back rest top,
Interiors can be made in any custom colour you want, along with matching Tonna covers,
Conv. tops can also be done in a vast aray of colours and materials.
I just got a test top i,m putting on my Red Amphi, to match the Grey interior, with a better zipper in window and Velcro on sides!!!

can check the origianl paint of my Amphi ? Can you check by Body Number ?

Holger - There is no way to determine your Amphicar's original color other than by looking at it. There were no "trim tags" that listed colors and options like most cars since the 60's now have. Your body number only determines the probable order that it was built. Unless it's been completely stripped to bare metal inside and out, deternining your original color should be easy. If your car was red, it's interior would have been a charcoal and white. White Amphicars had red and white interior, blue had a yellow and white interior and the Green Amphicars had an apricot and white interior. The top color was either black or white except for the few cars built for the 1964 World's fair which were white cars with a red top and side trim.

If it's still there, I produced a webpage in the Amphicar.com site that showed all the factory colors available including the dark green of Berlin police cars and at least 1 black one was reportedly produced.

looking at pics of your car I say it was a red car,, has Grey/white interior(original but poor).car has been repainted in Viper Red. over spay on wireing etc. and is brighter than Original red. Yes people put red/white kits in red cars,, look good too. thats your choice but my grey kits look much better than the old original intertior too!
