Slower than usual

I rebuit the engine, top end, replaced a cracked piston, honed the cylanders, and put in new ring. Also rebuilt the transmission. Everything purrs like a kitten, but it won't go over 50mph. I've read previous posts regarding this: vacume advance, draging brake, lack of fuel, none seem to apply. Any other common problems, or suggestions.

Three Rivers, CA. I'll check that out as soon as I find out what a "valve lash" is. Help?

Valve lash... set the lifter clearance to 10 thou.
main thing and very inportant is to make sure!!!!! the timing chain was put in right the only way to check is to pull the timing cover off again. one tooth out will cause this problem.
