My Vehicle Transport Nightmare (no Amphi content)

A few weeks ago I purchased a 1968 Vista Cruiser wagon. The appeal of this particular vehicle being that it is one owner, in incredible condition, all service records and paperwork from new, etc. You can see it here:

I hired someone to transport it and it was picked up on Tuesday from SC. Delivery was supposed to be today but shipper calls yesterday and asks if it coud be first thing Friday morning as he needs to get some other delivery completed. I say, "no problem".

I get a call this morning. I am expecting him to delay again but no, that would have been good news. .....

He tells me that this morning he was unloading the car from the trailer. Apparently, when he undid the straps the car rolled backwards, down a hill, and into a tree.

At this point all I have is one photo (attached). I'm no expert but it appears it's not going to be cheap to fix or easy to get the parts and return the car to it's original condition. Looks like far too much damage already, tailgate, bumper, maybe glass, not sure how far forward damage goes (i.e. passenger door?).

Yes, he is insured (as is the car with Hagerty) but that is only partial consolation. I bought this car, at a premium price, because it is all original. I am in a state of complete disbelief. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now, just have to stay calm.

Mike,

You just suffered everyone's worst nightmare. Insurance may cover the
damages but it will never be the same car and in my mind you would not
be able to sell it for the "premium" price you paid for it and that's
a real shame.

Not much else can be said other than I feel for you.

I was all set to find someone to bring mine up from Texas when I got a call from a Amphi owner looking for a steel front hood.. the Transporter did not check it and it blew open on highway,, and of coarse many other storys, so 2 day down 2 days back,I know it on safe, and is home in 1 peice.
Sorry for you grief there Mike. Wow.

I get a call about a 38 Buick rolled in a ditch. Owner upset, pay for tow keep the car. It was his project and receiver ball nut came loose. And car flipped into ditch. Ouch!
