I already shared bad news about John Bevins’ Wife, Kathy, who lost her battle with cancer night before last. Now I must share news about John himself. Some of you aren't on Facebook and wouldn't have seen this.

John has restored many Amphicars. Even without the use of his legs, he manages to do pretty much everything. He replaces windshields, crawls around in the trunk, works on engines and transmissions and even does engine removals. I have known him for over 23 years and he has been in a wheelchair the entire time. We spent a week together at the Sturgis SD motorcycle rally, which he rode to from Denver on his Harley with his wheelchair in the sidecar. He has mentored so many of us and hopefully you have seen his excellent and detailed reproductions of Amphicar manuals and diagrams. The large color wiring diagram is a masterpiece. He truly LIVES Amphicars! Without him I would not have persevered in obtaining and restoring my car.

A while back he was working on a transmission in the car and as usual had padding spread all around to protect himself. Not having any lower feeling, he didn’t realize it had shifted and he developed a wound. This wound worsened and although he was under medical care it spread to other places. He was trying to run his Amphicar tour business as well as help Kathy battle her cancer.

The infection has spread to his bones and at this point, the treatment would mean severe amputations involving his legs and pelvis. Those of you who know him know that he has endured and conquered a lot, but he can’t conquer this. So, he will be entering Hospice care at this time.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He would like to hear from you. He welcomes your calls but please understand if he doesn’t answer all the time. He’s going one day at a time and he is taking the loss of Kathy extremely hard. If you want to write or call him, please consult me or Deann Gentz. We can provide his Email address and/or phone number.
