DC-DC converter

I've been reading that an isolated DC_DC converter will solve my problem of adding a 12 volt negative ground radio and a depth sounder. Specifically it's recommended that I use a 5amp or 10amp Vicor, Tracy, or Meanwell isolated converter. Can anyone confirm that this is a good, easy and or economical choice ?

Just switch car to Neg ground..
only thing you have to change in Fuel gauge in dash,
Gordon Imports now sells new units.
 
Yes, go negative ground. Easy to do. An alternator is so much better anyway and modern batteries don't like the spiky output from old generators, but main reason is too much risk of fire when you try and swop the grounds like that, it just takes one insulating washer to be dislodged and ...
