The auction says that is not "THE" Amphicar that is for sale, but one
similar. It does say that it was a 2700KM dealer demo car, dismantled,
stored and later restored at great expense. At least that is what I
get using a machine tranlation. I'd prefer to see a pic of the actual
car, sounds nice enough.

Cap'n John is good and Cap'n John is wise, and most importantly, Cap'n John
is absolutely correct in that the yellow Amphicar shown in the auction is
oddly enough not a picture of the one for sale, although the seller does
offer to mail some pix to folks who contact him (or her?...I think not).
Since I lived in the land of the cut-rate Knockwurst for many years in a
previous incarnation and can still vaguely recall their lingo, here's a
translation of the auction's text, followed by the original. I must say
it's an odd auction, even for German eBay, which can sometimes be a little
eccentric in its practices (like sometimes expecting the bidder to pick up
the cost of the eBay listing). Still, here it is: ~Bilgey:

ENGLISH AUCTION TEXT TRANSLATION

Looking for an Amphicar?

Here you are bidding on probbaly the world's best and most unique Amphicar
which you can imagine

It was used for only one year as a demonstration vehicle and then in a set
aside in a Museum. There it was discovered many years ago by an classic car
enthusiast, who wanted to preserve the Amphicar for eternity and completely
disassembled it and packed it in cartons. Several years ago I was able to
obtain this Amphicar and completed this work without regard to cost.

That means that the rearly rust-free vehicle was completely stripped, zinced
and then reassembled [built up] with multiple layers of boat paint. Various
add-on parts were brought to as-new condition or better. All screw
connections were perfected with stainless steel or were underlaid with
layers of synthetic materials in order to avoid contact corrosion. Various
chromed decorative pieces were [also] underlaid.

All chrome parts were transformed from original stock to as-new condition.

Now the clincher:
There is a gap-free vehicle history and original vehicle papers
The car has run only 2,700 original kilometers
Assorted correspondence with the factory is included
Even the rubber mats are original and in the best condition
Seats and door coverings, it is true, been replaced. The complete original
interior is also included.

Since surely many bullshitters, know-it-alls and nay-sayers will now look at
this site, if you are seriously seeking such a car, please mail me your
telephone number, and I will contact you. All bids without such contact
confirmation will not be considered valid.

Attention. This is not only the world's best Amphicar, but also the most
expensive!! Please observe the reserve price.

I will be happy to mail photos after contact confirmation. The photo shown
is not of the offered vehicle, but does correspond to the color of the
offered car. The car is being sold for another party.

Alternatively, there is another inexpensive Amphicar in complete original
condition 2-3, second hand swim and road ready and absolutely unrestored.

unrestauriert.
