Wow! An Original Aerocar For Sale

I couldn't agree more! I am lucky to know the guy who owns the only air-worthy example. It is a 2 tone green/yellow one. He lives close by and hopefully this sumer I will get my long awaited ride. The red one for sale was $5.5 mil about 2 years ago in Wyoming.

Re: Wow! An Original Aerocar For S...

Wow John, you know everyone. The thought of a ride in one of Molt Taylor's
Aerocars is really exciting.

I hold a Commercial License, though I have not flown in several years now. I
love to fly anything - hot air balloons, ultra-lights, biplanes, sail
planes, etc. whether as the pilot in command or just as a passenger. and I really
miss flying. I have flown in many DC-3's and as a passenger and as Co-Pilot in
a Ford Tri-motor (I used to watch the "Island Airways" Ford Tri-motors by
the hour as they flew into and out of Sandusky, Ohio, to Put-In-Bay out in Lake
Erie and other Airports in the area. I have been fortunate to have flown in
two Junker Tri-motors, one in New Guinea and the other which was owned by
Martin Caidin which I finagled a ride in at Oshkosh and while aloft, an ME-109
flew alongside and I photographed it out the window - that was exciting. I
even flew in a 1911 replica of a Wright Flyer - Rob Vondracek met us in Akron
when I did that.

Because I knew the Concorde's days were numbered, being that they were so
heavily subsidized and so expensive to fly, Carol and I flew to London in one
in 1992 and that was indeed a thrill, though far far too short a flight time
wise. I watched one take off from Fort Lauderdale Airport one time ( it was a
special occasion, because they did not normally land at that Airport.)
Several times, I watched them land and leave Dulles Airport near Washington. An
interesting side light to our Concorde trip was that we drove to Washington,
then took a shuttle flight from Dulles to JFK in New York. I wanted to
record the event and videotaped much of the experience. However, on the shuttle
flight, there were signs warning against the use of electronic devices, so not
wanting to be a trouble maker, I shut the camera off when they announced that
all electronic devices had to be turned off and did not wait for a flight
attendant to tell me to do so. Thus, when we arrived in New York and to the VIP
Concorde lounge, etc., I resumed videotaping including right up into the
aircraft. Lo and behold, they had no objections to the videotaping and I not
only filmed extensively throughout the flight, but the flight attendant told me
that once we were aloft, I could go up into the cockpit where I also
"filmed." (I feel guilty using the word "filmed," since nowadays, it is "taping on
videotape !) The Concordes carried 100 passengers in 25 rows of 4 and had real
time readouts on bulkheads throughout telling everyone the temperature
outside, the current speed - Mach such and such, the altitude, distance to go,
etc. We flew, I believe, to about 62,000 feet and up to just over Mach 2.

Other than that, I have personally flown several of the Goodyear Blimps,
including the high tech "Spirit of Akron," which came to an unfortunate end,
though with no loss of life. Sometimes only two of us were up for several hours
at a time just to give the Goodyear name exposure. It was only chance
because I lived in Pompano Beach, Florida, one of the 3 locations where Goodyear
Blimps have been quartered for over 30 years years, the other two locations
being Akron and Long Beach, California. Several of the pilots and the person in
charge of the Pompano operation were friends and patients of mine - hence
that opportunity. When sailing around the world in the fifties, we flew up to
the Highlands of New Guinea in a 1930 DeHaviland Biplane which was also quite a
thrill. Needless to say, I am a fortunate person and have been blessed with
a number of special opportunities.

From what I hear, you are progressing well. Just keep it up and keep your
indomitable spirit up.

Re: Wow! An Original Aerocar For S...

My daughter and I looked over a yellow/black*Aerocar this past summer about 25 miles south of me.
It was restored*maybe 15 years ago and then put in a collection after taking 1 last flight for the cameras.* It has been maintained so I'm sure it would still fly if tuned up and pulled out.
