Something else to watch out for:
A couple of years ago I was cruising down a highway enjoying the good
weather thinking how nice it was being in my Amphi. All of a sudden
the hood popped open. I thought to myself, that is not supposed to
happen. Then things got worse, the wind caught the hood and bent it up
pushing the horn assembly right through my windshield leaving
glass splinters all over the place. This was not a good thing, not
only was my windshield smashed, but here I was going 50mph down the
highway and all of a sudden I couldn't see anything in front of me!
Fortunately there was not a lot of traffic, I leaned out the side to
see where I was going and managed to pull over to the side.
It turns out I had forgotten to latch the hood and the safety catch
for the hood had been slightly bent. As a result when I got up to a
decent speed and the wind caught the hood the latch didn't catch it as
it opened.
So don't forget - always latch your hood right away when you close it
and check your safety latch to make sure it has not been bent and
still works.
