I am in process of taking the cover off our water tranny to review
the damage inside for repair.
I have all the linkage and switches off along with all the nuts.
Is there an easier method to remove this cover than using a brass
hammer on the two ears at top?

I have had my cover off for repair and there is no easy way. Be patient while
you are tapping it off. If you grab the outer cover with your other hand
while you are tapping it equally on both ears a bit at a time on the left and
a bit on the right and pull towards the front of the car while you are
tapping it may help things out a bit. Just remember that it is a SLOW
process. Remember, also, that you need to take out the 7mm allen screw or the
cover will not come off.
