Water pump boom

A little warning. My not too old replacement water pump came apart.
The replacements have pressed on pulleys , with out the nut . It did
give a small warning of noise but all indicators of absolute destruction
were null. Pulley with fan came off shaft and totaled radiator, oil
cooler and of course fan. So if You have even a minor noise or
vibration from Your newer water pump- replace immediatley. Later Dave
the Wave.

Dear Dave I might have some good advice. I'm an ASE certified
mechanic and I have worked a parts counter as well and have run my
own company for four years. If you can get a new water pump not a
reman the quality should be better than these hack economy rebuilds.
If you can get a rebuild with the nut on it you can stake the nut
with a cold chisel so it won't come off or you can try loc-tite if
you don't want to stake the nut. Another method is a tack weld on
the nut. Three different methods depending on one's mood and
circumstances.
You can also torque the nut to amphibicar or water pump
specifications with a torque wrench too.
For the press on pulley a tack weld might be in order to keep that
sucker on or a new shaft that fits tight or a new pulley that fits
tight any one or combination thereof could be old and loose.
Loctite makes a product for shafts to stay tight. I might have a
sample I could send you for free if you could spring for shipping it
out to you. I can check my shop.
Sincerely,
Bruce Duncan
