Hi
As mentioned every 3 or 4 years I remove everything in the trunk including the spare tire, take out the whole interior, and sometimes remove the engine hood. I'm careful and have a big box to sit on and I drive to the car wash. I blast the trunk area, and under floor area real good. I'm careful in the engine bay area. I spray down low and stop to let the water drain as I go, I use the soap only and don't rinse it out. I leave the soap and it smells nice, for a few days. So nice to have it clean.
Another thing I do when the bilge is oily is pour bilge cleaner in and leave the plug in and drive around with a few gallons of water mixed in with it. The sloshing around while driving acts like a washing machine and smells nice and cleans it up a little. But the only way to really clean it is to wipe it out and power wash it.
Hopefully my recent work will keep the bilge a little cleaner and I can go a few more years between cleaning.
And the shift shaft, OMG. First time, years back, took me 8 hours and I felt like such a rookie. This time I was told to shift it into first gear and proceed from there. It worked and was no problem. So I learned from my mistake on that move.
