Underdash Stereo Speakers

Hello,

I've put 4 photos of the Stereo speaker installation that I use in my
Amphicars in the photo section. There is no way to get really good
volume from anything as small as 4 or 5" speakers and I wanted enough
sound to come out that I could hear the radio when driving down the
expressway with the top down. I also didn't want the speakers to show
at all since I don't like doing things to Amphicars that don't look
stock. The best thing I could come up with was to cut holes the
underdash area and install a pair of 5 x 7" speakers with covers
under there. 5 x 7 speakers were the largest things that would fit
between the gas tank and the glove box and make the most sound
possible without showing. This is a bit radical for me since I
normally don't like cutting any holes in an Amphicar but for me the
sound quality was worth the trade out. I found an old Japanese stereo
radio that fits perfectly in the Amphicar cut out without
modification. I also added an old Alpine booster amplifier that gives
sufficient power to drive the speakers. My cars have been converted
to negative ground so adding these things isn't a problem.

I've done this on both my cars and it has worked fine for 5 years now.
