I recently had a trip into the water that had the engine stall and in sort of a panic to get the car out of the water we tied on to the bumper. Well that resulted in a pretty twisted bent bumper. I sent it out to a straightner and rechromer and the end result was pretty good. $350.00 was total cost.

Yes, I generally regard those front bumpers as "show pieces", not having much value as a real bumper. I was once in one of my Amphicars when a taxi backed into the front of it. It was barely a tap but resulted in straightening and rechroming for me too.
