I thought for sure your problem was that you needed to remove the
grease fitting from the axle. I've done several of these axles now.
Every time I must remove the grease fitting to get the thing to fit.
Even with the fitting off it takes a lot of effort to compress the axle
into place. I usually have someone bracing behind me as I push with
both feet. Assuming that's not the problem the only other thing I can
imagine is that something has fallen into the transmission opening and
is blocking the two splines from meeting properly. Perhaps a piece of
the old double lip oil seal or worse, perhaps a piece of the new one is
laying in there. Can you reach in and feel around for a piece of
rubber, or more likely, one of those little metal springs that fit on
the seal?
