Triva Question- Castle on Horn Button

I'm sure someone out there knows the answer to this one.

What is the significants of the Castle on the horn. It it representive of a castle? I seem to recall seeing a vintage picture of an Amphi with a castle in the backgroud.

That' s a depiction of the "castle" (actually the town's ancient main
gate or "Holstentor") of the City of Lübeck, one of the two places the
Amphicar was assembled (the other being Berlin).

The Amphicar's white steering wheel and emblematic horn button were
produced by the same company that made the VW bug and bus steering
wheels of the same period, and they were identical in all other respects
except that the VW wheels featured the coat of arms of the city of
Wolfsburg on the horn button. I am told that quite a few Amphicar
steering wheels have found their way, Lübeck horn buttons and all, onto
quirky VW restorations over the years.

That's the Lübeck Castle for the city where Amphicars were built.

Hi Bilgy, As soon as I read the question I though to myself Bilgy knows the answer to this. I remember your post about horn buttons from about four years ago.
Celina wasn't the same without you. It never is.
And we could sure use some of your incite here nowadays. Please do post a bit.

Ahoy guys!

Rest assured that OLD BUOY is just fine and doing well, as are the
rest of us. We just bought a new house in Spring, and while it's not
a "fixer-upper" in the sense of "Hey Dad, how come my room has no
roof?", it was a foreclosure that sorely needed (and still needs) a
lot of what the realtors call "TLC", which it turns out means every
moment of my spare time and every loose nickel.

Still, it's all coming together, and the otherwise all major elements
of "The Grand Plan" for annual family amphibious vacations, including
that annual trip to Celina, are all in place: decent old RV with a V8
-- check!, ancient car hauler created from surplus army parts (from
the Spanish-American War, I gather)--check! So, hopefully we can
make the gathering next year.

Well, gotta go caulk something now (which sounds like a lot more fun
than it really is)...
