tranny mounts

Hi,
I need to replace one of the tranny mounts.
Before I get into it... are there any tricks to doing it?
I do not have access to a cherry picker or rafters to lift/support the tranny
while I do it.... Any good ways to lift it a tad to get the new mount in place?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
Don't worry about any lifting to get the tranny mounts changed. There isn't
much weight on those mounts so you won't need any sort of chain lift or
anything. You'll be able to easily lift the transmission enough to slide
the old out and the new in. If you need a third hand to slide the new mount
in, just have Nicole help you while you lift!
I like Dave's suggestion about some additional mounting support. Lot's of
others have talked about this as well, and although I haven't done anything
with my mounts yet to "beef 'em up", I am considering going with the German
style that was featured in the newsletter a few years back.

Good luck,
Marc Schlemmer

Those tranny mounts are actually not hard to mount at all. It doesn't take
much "oomph" to lift those mounting arms enough to get out the old mount and
slide in the new one. Leverage is on your side...It's maybe a five minute
job, even for the mechanically-challenged like me.

Previous postings to this List have mentioned "German style" retrofits and
other improvements over the original admittedly less-than-perfect mounting
system. If you've already gotten or ordered your new mounts, then by all
means use them. If not, then you might consider Paul Rasmussen's "Improved
Transmission Mount Retrofit Kits," an ad for which, along with a photo and a
mechanical diagram by designer Bernard Schatt of the German Amphicar Club,
can be found in the Club Classifieds at http://www.amphicar.com/ads.htm .
