Tits and Amphis

I bet you think this is going to be a message about how attracted
women are to our cars and how they will do just about anything for a
ride in one.

Well its not. (sorry)

What I am talking about is Amphicar Lubrication. I am unable to find
a good reference to lubing our cars. I was told there are many grease
tits that are not clearly visible. My fear is I am missing these and
it will cause damage with respect to my heavy water usage.

So I would like to create a graphic (or many) to pin point the exact
locations of each amphi grease tit (and other grease related points
of interest).

I will make it (the images) available to everyone, but the problem is
I do not know where/what/how much/how often with respect to lube.

Can we all get together here and name all the lube points and
describe the location? If we all post one or two that we know of I
will then have the whole list and I will make nice charts.

(If this has been done I am sorry for stepping on your toes. Can I
have one!?)

Chris:

In response to your posting below...There's no need! All the lubrication
points and intervals information is in the 'Amphicar Owners Manual', a
wonderful online version of which has been produced by James Oliver at
http://www.iserv.net/~jgo/toys/amphi/manual/index.html (see pages 14 and
15). There's just enough detail in the scans to find everything you need.

I am also working on an addition to to the Maint Manual including
these very points. I have the Parts Manual scanned as well. But in my
ususal s l o w pace. Chris, I would be happy to send you a enlarged
scan of all those pints if'n ya like, or better yet, I will put it in
the files section this weekend.

Hi Chris,
Speaking of tits (or teats) on an Amphicar, I noticed that there are
so many of them hidden around in various places that it might be handy
to have a quick way of finding them. I found the NAPA auto stores
have high quality little rubber covers for these grease points. They
are colored red and make the grease fittings easy to see. They also
protect the fittings from dirt and yet fit tight enough to keep water
out. I put them on all the fitting on my Amphi's. The part number
is: 715-1091 for a pack of 5. You'll obviously need more than one
pack. I think about eight packs is about right. I also tried some
cheaper ones from Eastwood but they were plactic, didn't fit tight and
I don't think they would stay on.

Bummer--that's why I bought this thing!!----but speaking of grease
zerks--now that you mention it they DO have an interesting shape--never
looked at them that way before--when doing the inboard axle u-joint zerk I
took a piece of 1/8 pipe about 3 feet long and put another zerk on one end
and a female like on the gun on the other end and now you have a "tit" tool
that would make anyone in the adult film industry proud. If you wear a
headlight on your head----guess what you can even see what you're about to
get grease all over!!
On another note--Northern Tools has the Flojet water pump ala David
Chapman's photo for sale in a catalog---was 99.99 now its
89.99---800-533-5545 item number 228771-F743.
Hope to see some of you at Mt Dora--we can have a technical discussion
on the proper way to do Amphi slippery nipples---or how to lube your car or
not!!!!---Ken

Hey Ken,

It will be great to see you in Mt Dora. I think your idea for a tech
session on the proper way and places to use the ole nipple pump is
super. I know I will be interested!
